What Europe means to me?
It means the end of the historic division of the European continent into separate national states and the beginning to create solid foundation to construct even more united Europe in the years ahead. Europe is a role model and inspiration that transformed the cultural, religious and humanist inheritance of Europe, into the universal values of the inviolable and inalienable rights of the humans, like freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law. A union that deepens the solidarity between their peoples while respecting their history, their culture and their traditions. An organization, which is acting like a single body determined to promote economic and social progress for their people, taking into account the principle of sustainable development and within the context of the accomplishment of the internal market and of reinforced cohesion and environmental protection. Also Europe that is resolved to facilitate the free movement of people, while ensuring of their safety and security, by establishing an area of freedom, security and justice. Europe that implemented a common foreign and security policy including the progressive framing of a common defense policy, which might lead to strengthening the European identity and its independence in order to promote peace, security and progress in Europe and in the world.
What would your ideal Europe look like?
Europe that is committed to continue the process of creating an ever closer union among the people of Europe, in which decisions are taken as closely as possible to the citizen in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity. Where further steps are taken in order to advance further European integration in the fields of foreign policy, and even of security and defense. A more complete single market, and also a common EU approach to migration. There is a huge need for more closely integrated markets in Europe. The high level of economic integration is what has given Europe its strength, and this integration will play a huge part in Europe’s survival in the age of political one.
